Question:
Should I Tell My Recruiter I am Interviewing with Another Company?
Answer:
Absolutely you should. Recruiters are realistic, they understand that while it would be ideal for each of their candidates to only apply for a new position through them, the truth is that a candidate should exercise all possible angles and connections they have when looking for a new career opportunity.
Letting a Recruiter know that you are being represented by another agency or engaged in an interview process with another company is nothing to be ashamed of or nervous to tell the Recruiter about. In fact, letting them know can help open up an honest dialogue between the candidate and Recruiter that might even lead to a new level of trust and stronger professional relationship between the two parties.
A Recruiter’s worst nightmare to have a candidate go through a long process to finally receive an offer only to be told by the candidate mid offer call that they have another pending offer elsewhere, so make sure the Recruiter is aware and expectations are set accordingly.
On the positive side, letting your Recruiter know you are working with another agency or company and you are expecting another offer in the near future could actually force the Recruiter to put pressure on the Hiring Manager to make an offer or loose you which could help speed up the hiring process in certain situations for highly qualified candidates.
